It has been a while since foldables took centre stage as the most premium devices in any smartphone brand's lineup of products. Apple has yet to showcase its first foldable (which it has been working on for a while), a move that is expected to give a boost to this smartphone segment that seems stuck in the doldrums when it comes to consumer adoption. At the same time, there is a new breed of foldable by Huawei that was launched in China last year, but went global this year. The “tri-folds” as they are currently referred to, are indeed what everyone dreamt foldables would be. A smartphone-sized device that, like something out of Westworld, would open up into a full-sized rectangular tablet serving two use cases.
Let's be clear that AI (short for Artificial Intelligence) is no longer a buzzword in 2025, and it's the defining feature that will make or break your next smartphone purchase in the years to come. Interestingly, not many people realise that, but AI is the new front line in the battle for your pocket, and Google is showing that it intends to lead the charge. Google's 10th generation of Pixel phones is finally here, featuring a familiar look and tons of AI that's making the difference.
Google Pixel 10 is the entry point to the new Pixels, yet again, following closely on its predecessor, the Pixel 9. But this year, the base Pixel 10 model is no longer the model that misses out on some must-have features. The perfect case in point is the new telephoto sensor onboard the Pixel 10 that makes the smartphone much more versatile. There are other improvements as well, such as an all-new TSMC-made chip, battery enhancements, and more, which I will discuss in this review.
The Pixel 9a, Google's latest mid-range smartphone, uses the same winning formula as its predecessors. It's the most affordable Pixel phone in the 9 series, and if you're someone who loves to take photos, the 9a is a great option. There are a couple of changes this year in terms of design. Unlike last year's Pixel 8a, which was rounded and resembled the Pixel 8, the new Pixel 9a looks significantly different. It has flat sides and the familiar Pixel camera bar, but it now sits flush against the rear.
