Netflix has released the first full trailer for Lost in Space, its modern-day reboot of Irwin Allen's classic 1965 sci-fi series, which follows the pioneering space-colonists Robinson family, who find themselves in unknown alien territory after their spaceship veers off-course in a space-time incident.

The new Lost in Space trailer runs close to three minutes, and that's a lot of time for promoting a new series. It begins with the Robinson family in their spaceship flying over a planet, and an imminent collision with some massive space debris. Said collision forces them to crash land on the snow-clad regions of said planet.

"We're lost," Will Robinson (Maxwell Jenkins), the youngest of the three Robinson children, says. To which, he gets a sarcastic reply from his elder sister Judy (Taylor Russell): "No kidding." Cut to the Robinson family exploring the unknown planet, and the excited Will declaring himself the "first human to discover evidence of alien intelligence".

Said alien intelligent life form turns to be a humanoid robot with a face consisting of dot-sized lights, and a three-prong metal claw for a hand. It looks similar to Geth from Mass Effect, and the Mass Effect influences can also be seen in the Robinson surface vehicle later in the trailer, and the overall look of the series.

Of course, Will's family doesn't react in the same excited manner as the young child, imagining the robot to be dangerous. Instead, it's the robot who speaks of danger, bringing back the iconic line from the original series: "Danger, Will Robinson."

Cut to the Robinson spaceship sinking into a giant icehole, the Robot playing catch with Will, and some dramatic exchanges and scenes of heavy tension, which all hints at a very self-serious reboot. Lost in Space stars Toby Stephens and Molly Parker as the Robinson parents, while Dr. Smith is now a woman (Parker Posey) in the Netflix series.

Neil Marshall, the director of the 2019 Hellboy reboot and multiple Game of Thrones episodes, has helmed several episodes of Lost in Space. The show has been created by writing duo Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold), with Zack Estrin (Prison Break) as the showrunner.
