In the January-June 2017 period, the company had received 25,367 requests.

This adds up to a total 48,306 requests during the entire 2017 - the lowest number in the last five years.

When it comes to the government requests for content removal for the July-December 2017 period, China topped the list with 406 requests while the Indian government sent only two such requests.

Microsoft's "Content Removal Requests Report" covers requests from governments such as claims of violations of local laws or its terms of use and requests to remove non-consensual pornography, also referred to as "revenge porn", among others.
