Apple launched the iPhone 18 Pro series and the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone, on Wednesday during the ‘Surprise and Shine' event. Soon after the launch event, the company updated its website to raise prices on its older smartphones in India, including the iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, and iPhone Air. This comes months after the Cupertino-based tech giant raised the prices of multiple devices. Tim Cook, Apple's former CEO, reportedly hinted that the ongoing RAM and storage crisis has made future price hikes inevitable. The iPhone 17 and iPhone Air launched alongside last year at significantly lower prices than their new cost.
The tech giant has updated its online store in India to reflect the new prices of the iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, and iPhone Air. The iPhone 17 now starts at Rs. 99,900 for the base 256GB storage option. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line 512GB option now costs Rs. 1,24,900.
This is a Rs. 17,000 price hike from the phone's launch price. For reference, the iPhone 17 was launched last year at a starting price of Rs. 82,900. Meanwhile, the iPhone Air is now available in India with a starting price of Rs. 1,49,900 for the 256GB variant. Meanwhile, the 512GB and 1TB models now cost Rs. 1,74,900 and Rs. 2,24,900, respectively. To recap, the thin and light handset was launched last year at Rs. 1,19,900, Rs. 1,39,900, and Rs. 1,59,900, respectively.
In addition, the price of the recently launched iPhone 17e has increased to Rs. 79,900 and Rs. 1,04,900 for the 256GB and 512GB storage models, respectively. The entry-level smartphone was launched in India on March 2 at a starting price of Rs. 64,900, while the top-end model was priced at Rs. 84,900. Among the three phones, the iPhone 17e has seen the highest price hike.
The iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, and iPhone Air price hikes come shortly after the tech giant launched the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Duo, its first foldable. The handsets were unveiled during the company's ‘Surprise and Shine' event. Both iPhone 18 Pro series phones were introduced at a significantly higher price compared to their predecessors last year.
