LG has confirmed that the successor to its 2013 flagship, the LG G2, will boast of a Quad-HD (1440x2560 resolution) pixels screen. The Korean consumer electronics giant has however not provided any further details, including the name of the successor, which so far is presumed to be called the LG G3.

The news was first spotted under the Sprint user agent profile of the smartphone that mentioned 1440x2550 pixels as the 'screen size'. However, Engadget and Ubergizmo later got in touch with LG, and the Korean tech firm confirmed the resolution.

For now, no screen size has been confirmed, however, previous rumours had indicated a 5.5-inch display, which would give the LG G3's display a pixel density of roughly 530ppi.

Moreover, a purported image of the LG G3 running through the AnTuTu benchmark also points to the same resolution, and also provided some additional specifications such as Adreno 330 GPU, OpenGL ES 3.0, a rather inaccurate 640 dpi, and multi-touch support.

The Sprint user agent profile additionally shows the handset will run on Android 4.4.2 KitKat along with a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB built-in storage that can be expanded up to 64GB.

Reports from last month suggest the LG G3 handset will also be water-resistant like several of the new flagships (Sony Xperia Z2 and Samsung Galaxy S5) seen these days. It was also mentioned that while Samsung had teamed up with a Korean firm using the Liquid Silicon Moulding method to make its Samsung Galaxy S5 water-resistant, LG might go ahead with its own native technologies in the LG G3.

The LG G2 successor is being speculated to get introduced in Q3 or Q4, around the same time when Qualcomm's Snapdragon 805 is expected to arrive.

Back in January, it was reported that LG G3 might follow the lead of Apple and Samsung and include a fingerprint sensor. In December, it was reported that LG was testing a prototype of the alleged LG G3 with fingerprint scanner.

However, these are just rumours as the firm has not yet confirmed any of the specifications besides the QHD screen resolution.
