In terms of features, the Android 16-based update brings several new AI-enabled functionalities and design changes. Nothing OS 4.0 introduces Live Updates via Glyph Interface, which displays real-time ride, delivery, and timer information on your screen and the Glyph Interface on the back. Apps that support the Livee Updates feature on Android 16 are said to start supporting the Glyph Progress feature.

The new Nothing OS 4.0 update also brings the Extra Dark Mode feature to Nothing Phone models, which is said to help in improving contrast, displaying deeper blacks, reducing power consumption, and a more comfortable viewing experience in low light conditions. Essential Space and Launcher will also support Extra Dark Mode. The Android 16-based firmware also features new interaction and app open and close animations, haptic feedback at volume limits, and enhanced notification interactions. Additionally, users will also be able to resize Weather, Pedometer, and Screen Time widgets to 1x1 and 2x1 layouts.

They can switch between the two using swipe gestures, too. Lastly, Nothing Phone 3 owners will get the new Flip to Glyph controls, improved Pocket Mode, and new Glyph Toys. Moreover, the Glyph Mirror Selfie feature now lets users save the original photo as “an extra photo” in the native Gallery app.
