  • Home screen rotation was exclusive to Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+
  • New Samsung Experience update for Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8
  • Only a few users are seeing this feature as of now

Samsung has rolled out a new Samsung Experience Launcher update bringing a new feature to Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy S8+, and Samsung Galaxy Note 8 users. This update brings along the ability to rotate the home screen, a feature that was first exclusive only to the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy S9+ users. However, with this update, few users with a Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and the Galaxy Note 8 are able to use the home screen while using the phone in portrait or landscape mode. Furthermore, an updated user manual also suggests that the Galaxy A8 (2018), and Galaxy A8+ (2018) are also slated to get Android Oreo update very soon.

The home rotation feature is arriving with the Samsung Experience Launcher update for a select few Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and Galaxy Note 8 users. SamMobile reports that not all users are seeing the option to rotate home screen, even after the update. It could be possible that Samsung is rolling the feature out in waves, or that it is just testing it, before making it available to all users. In any case, you can check for the new feature by heading to the Settings Menu to see if its arrived for you or not.

Once you update to the latest Samsung Experience version 9.0.10.76, head to the Home Screen Settings menu, and look for a new Portrait Mode Only option. This option will prevent your phone's Home Screen from rotating into Landscape mode, regardless of how you hold your phone. Enable it, if you want your phone to remain in Portrait Mode only, and not rotate into landscape mode matching your app orientation. If you can't see the update on your phone, you can download it via APK Mirror as well.

This feature should come built in with the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 expected in the fall. It is expected to launch at the Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled on August 9. It is expected to feature top of the line specs including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 or Samsung Exynos 9810 SoCs, Android 8.1 Oreo, a 6.4-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity Display with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio, up to 8GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of inbuilt storage. Some reports have claimed that the phablet will get an additional physical button, possibly for a camera shutter.

Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) earlier this year, running on Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box, but later it was reported that the company was working on bringing the Android 8.0 Oreo update to the devices. Now, an updated user manual suggests that it should be arriving real soon, and it will bring Dolby Atmos support and a new camera UI, among other things.
