  • Samsung Galaxy S8 is now receiving the September Android security patch
  • The latest software update also upgrades the camera experience
  • It comes after Samsung released a similar update for the Galaxy Note 8

The latest software update for the Samsung Galaxy S8 is over 553MB in size

Just days after its arrival on the Galaxy Note 8, the new software update that brings the September Android security patch is now rolling out for the Samsung Galaxy S8 users. The latest update also improves the camera experience with the company's AR Emoji and Super Slow Motion. Both new features debuted on the Galaxy S9 family earlier this year. Samsung has additionally improved the security of the device and fixed a list of bugs to improve the overall experience. Presently, the update is majorly available for some Exynos-based Galaxy S8 in Europe, though a user owning a Sprint-locked handset powered by Snapdragon 835 in the US has also reported about its arrival.

As per the user reports on Reddit, the latest software update for the Galaxy S8 is over 553MB in size. It brings the September Android security patch, based on patch level dated 2018-09-01 that Google released earlier this month. The security patch addresses 24 vulnerabilities ranging from high to critical.

In addition to the September Android security patch, the software update for the Galaxy S8 includes AR Emoji that is designed to counter Apple's Animoji. The feature lets you create your 3D virtual avatar that can be used as an emoji. You can personalise your AR Emoji by changing its hairstyle or clothes and share it as a GIF, photo, or video. Once you've installed the latest software update on your Galaxy S8, you can create your AR Emoji by tapping the AR Emoji option from the newest Camera app.

The upgraded Camera app also includes the Super Slow Motion feature that was originally found on the Galaxy S9. However, unlike the offering video recording with 960fps at 720p for up to 0.4 seconds on the Galaxy S9, Samsung has brought 480fps at 720p for either 0.2 or 0.4 seconds to the Galaxy S8. This means that you may notice some differences between the slow-motion videos recorded on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S8. Having said that, the update ultimately brings the advanced feature to the Galaxy S8.

Several users from Europe have already confirmed the arrival of the latest software update on their Galaxy S8. But the same update is yet to reach other regions. It could just be a matter of a few days now.

You can check for the latest update on your Galaxy S8 by going to Settings > Software Updates > Download updates manually.
