Cortana for Android Gets a New Design, New Features

Microsoft's Cortana app for Android has received a bunch of new updates that include an entirely new design with some visual changes along with a bunch of improvements. Cortana for Android version 2.9.0 is available on Google Play can be downloaded right away.

Talking about the new features, Cortana's Android app has been redesigned with some minute visual modifications, spotted by MSPowerUser. The bottom navigation bar has been ditched to introduce the standard hamburger menu which will open a new page to access easier and quick settings, different themes for Cortana, notebook among others.

Moreover, the main Cortana feed has now been moved apart to a new Interests section, while a new Upcoming section keeps a track of upcoming events and related things. This new tab bifurcation is somewhat similar to Google's Explore tab.

The Cortana's Play store app listing mentions that the new update also includes 'hands-free calling and texting', in addition to the aforementioned improvements. There is also 'quick hands-on control' of the reminders that you set in Cortana, which can also be moved to the top-right corner in the app. While the new features aim at making Cortana more accessible and ubiquitous, the app's changelog also does mention Cortana's end of support for the Microsoft Band 2 with this update on the Android platform.
