Microsoft OneDrive for Windows Phone to Get Offline Access Feature

The Redmond giant plans to brings offline access to Microsoft OneDrive data on Windows Phone devices in the future, however it has not announced a timeline for the release of this feature.

Replying to a query post on Microsoft's OneDrive User Voice suggestion forums, Casey Penk, Program Manager at Microsoft, noted, "We know offline access is important, and we intend to bring this feature to Windows Phone. We don't have a specific timeline yet."

Notably, OneDrive for Windows 8.1 on desktop already allows users to store files for offline access, similar to Dropbox and Google Drive.

In October, Microsoft made an aggressive move by removing OneDrive storage limits for Office 365 subscribers. The company rolled out unlimited OneDrive storage to Office 365 Home, Personal, and University subscribers to access and upload content to OneDrive via desktop PC or mobile devices. Unlimited OneDrive storage for Office 365 users was announced not too long after Microsoft bumped up the storage limit from 20GB to 1TB in June.

For the OneDrive app for iOS, Microsoft had updated it with new security features like support for Apple's Touch ID and PIN code lock, optimised for iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, in October last year. The company had also announced two new ways to share files with Outlook Web App (OWA) and OneDrive for Business from the app.
