Sony PlayStation Home Service Shutting Down in US and Europe

Sony PlayStation Home, a virtual 3D social gaming platform, will soon be closing for US and European regions. The company had earlier announced shutting down of the service in Japan and other Asian territories.

Sony, on Friday announced that it will close the platform on 31 March next year.Sony will be stop publishing new content on PlayStation Home starting 12 November this year. Users from US and Canada can download content until 3 December.

"Due to a shifting landscape, PlayStation Home will cease publishing new content on November 12, 2014," stated the PlayStation Community post.

"As a token of our tremendous gratitude to the community, we will also be releasing a series of free content prior to the platform's closure on March 31, 2015." the post added.

"PlayStation Home has been serving the PS3 community since December 2008. During that time, tens of millions of users around the world have grown the social gaming platform into a thriving community of creative and enthusiastic gamers," added the blog.

Sony PlayStation Home is a virtual world in which PlayStation 3 players can create their own avatars and live in apartments, meet other friends, watch movies and play games. The virtual platform was also relaunched in 2011.

However, with the closure of PlayStation Home, Sony has been concentrating more on its PlayStation 4 console and its updates. The Japanese firm rolled-out PS4 System Update v2.00 in August this year alongside the release date of PlayStation TV during Gamescom 2014.
