Highlights
  • HTC 10, One A9, One M9 are set to receive the Android N update.
  • Google unveiled Android N Developer Preview 3 at I/O.
  • HTC did not reveal any specific timeline for the update.

Contradicting all rumours, Google refrained from announcing the commercial version of Android N, giving us only a new developer preview. The full and final version will see the light of the day with the Nexus smartphones later this year, but that didn't stop HTC to announce which smartphones from its portfolio will be getting the Android N upgrade - whenever it arrives.

On its Twitter account, the Taiwanese smartphone company announced that the HTC 10, HTC One A9, and the HTC One M9 smartphone users will be receiving the Android N update. Of course, there isn't any timeline revealed, and more details will only surface once the final Android N version is released.

Currently, only the beta version of Android N has been made available to compatible devices. It is supported on Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, Pixel C, and Android One (General Mobile GM 4G). The new build should already be rolling out via OTA to registered devices, while factory images have also been made available.

The three-day annual developers' conference is underway and Google has already unveiled quite a lot. Apart from Android N beta version, the company also introduced the huge Daydream VR ecosystem. We also saw Google introduce instant messaging and video calling apps -Allo and Duo. These apps will arrive in the fall, and are built to compete with WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, WeChat, Skype, Viber and many more. The much rumoured Google Home was unveiled at the event as well. The voice-based home automation device is all set to compete with Amazon Echo.
