  • The Zuk Z2 is expected to be a 'lite' variant of the Zuk Z2 Pro.

Lenovo has started sending invites for the launch of a new Zuk-branded smartphone, with May 31 the chosen date. Not details about global availability have been announced.

Not much is known about the smartphone till now, apart from it being a smaller variant of the Lenovo Zuk Z2 Pro that was launched last month. Zuk CEO Chang Cheng recently (via GizChina) shared render images of the smartphone, while also confirming it will be powered by the Samsung Exynos 8890 SoC that powers the Galaxy S7.

The invite however points to the presence of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC on the Lenovo Zuk Z2, just like the Lenovo Zuk Z2 Pro, indicating there will be two processor variants at launch.

To recall, the Zuk Z2 Pro came in two variants, based on memory and storage configurations. It was available in a 4GB of RAM + 64GB inbuilt storage variant, as well as a 6GB of RAM + 128GB storage variant.

The smartphone sports 13-megapixel rear camera with Isocell sensor, phase detection autofocus or PDAF, a pixel size of 1.34um, an f/ 1.8 aperture, and a dual-tone LED flash module, along with an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with f/ 2.0 aperture and pixel size of 1.4um. The Zuk Z2 Pro supports 4G LTE networks, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS, and USB 3.1 Type-C. A 3100mAh battery backs the handset and supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 as well.
