OnePlus, the company behind the '2014 flagship killer' smartphone named One, claims to have sold close to 1 million OnePlus One smartphones mark. The firm did not mention the exact numbers of the smartphone. It is also working on two smartphones simultaneously.

Notably, the Chinese smartphone maker in November last year said it expected to touch the 1-million mark in 2014, but was not able to do so. However, it is worth appreciating how the firm almost managed to finally reach the milestone by just selling one product (with two storage variants) in select markets only. To also be noted, is that the company only began shipping the smartphone in June, after launching it in April.

The company's 25-year-old co-founder Carl Pei at CES 2015 last week revealed the sales figure to PC World, adding that OnePlus will focus towards improving the customer service and operations this year. He added the next generation OnePlus One flagship to arrive in Q2 or Q3 of this year.

OnePlus is also working on a separate handset model, details of which are yet to be known. "I think its going to be a phone catering to a different type of audience. Perhaps for those who appreciate design over specs," Pei said. The smartphones are expected to arrive running the custom ROM based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, the alpha build of which was released by the firm couple of weeks ago.

The firm has been sticking with an invite-system for its One smartphone since the device's launch. While the invite-system might have pulled the company slightly back from touching 1 million sales mark by now, Pei said that the firm needed to keep the handset's demand and supply balanced. "It helps us to control the risk we are subject to," Pei explained to us in December. "We have no margins, our partners have no margins, so if we make too much, it'll be a loss-loss situation. We have to be sure that everything we make can be sold, and in the end, that gives users more choice as well, so it's in everyone's best interest."
