Redmi 17 5G was launched in India on Thursday as the new budget handset from the Xiaomi sub-brand. The smartphone is set to go on sale in the country later this month via an e-commerce platform. The phone will be available for purchase in three distinct colour options, similar to its global counterpart, which was launched early last month. The Redmi 17 5G is equipped with a 7,900mAh battery, which is notably larger than the global model. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 4 series chipset, too. It carries a dual rear camera unit, with a 50-megapixel main shooter.
Redmi 17 5G price in India starts at Rs. 39,999 for the base variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Meanwhile, the higher-end 8GB + 128GB RAM and storage configuration is priced at Rs. 41,999. However, the company has set the net effective price of the two variants at Rs. 23,999 and Rs. 26,999, respectively.
The new phone is set to go on sale in India on September 10 via Amazon and the Xiaomi online store. The Redmi 17 5G is offered in three colour options, namely Absolute Black, Endless Blue, and Eternal Orange.
The Redmi 17 5G is a dual-SIM smartphone that ships with Xiaomi's latest HyperOS 3, which is based on Android 16. Qualcomm's octa-core Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset, which is built on a 4nm process, powers the Redmi 17 5G. The SoC delivers a peak clock speed of up to 2.4GHz. It also features an Adreno GPU, up to 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM, and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 onboard storage, which is expandable by up to 2TB via a microSD card. The tech firm claims that the handset ships with an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance.
For optics, the Redmi 17 5G is equipped with a dual rear camera system, headlined by a 50-megapixel primary shooter with an f/1.8 aperture, paired with an unspecified secondary camera.
