LG HomeChat service for smart home appliances to be showcased at CES 2014

LG is all set to launch a new service called HomeChat, which will allow customers to control and monitor home appliances via smartphones.

LG has announced that it will showcase smart home appliances that will be featuring the HomeChat service at CES, scheduled in January 2014. LG reveals that the HomeChat service will allow customers to communicate, control, and monitor LG's home appliances, and that it can even can be used for sharing content. Notably, the upcoming LG smart home appliances will be able to communicate via instant messaging app, Line.

Further, LG announces that the HomeChat service will be initially available in English and Korean languages, while support for more languages will be introduced in 2014. As of now, LG has not revealed any details of the upcoming smart home appliances.

The South Korean giant claims that the HomeChat service has been designed to work with mobile messenger, Line which is available on all major smartphone platforms: Android, BlackBerry, iOS, Windows Phone, and Nokia Asha as well as desktops and laptops running Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X.

Commenting on the announcement, Seong-jin Jo, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance Company said, "Always at the forefront of innovation, LG is continually striving to inspire smarter consumer lifestyles in meaningful ways. We're excited to be able to bring to CES our smart appliances with the newest communication and intelligence capabilities."

LG informs that with messaging capabilities of HomeChat service, new LG smart appliance customers will for example be able to receive real time status updates from their refrigerators. Users can upload images to the refrigerator's display panel from their smartphones using Line messaging app.

Earlier this month, LG also announced that it would announce its 105-inch curved ultra high definition television at CES 2014. However, LG did not reveal any details about availability and pricing of the 105-inch curved UHD TV.

The LG's 105-inch curved UHD TV uses an LCD panel instead of OLED, which the company claims uses improved TFT (Thin Film Transistor) technology to prevent colour leakage and offers a good viewing experience from any angle.
