LG is the latest name to join the rumoured bandwagon of companies working on a smart watch.

Android Authority cites a report in Korean Times that quotes "source familiar to the matter" to say that not only is LG working on a smart watch to rival rumoured projects from Apple, Samsung, and Google, but it is also planning a device similar to Google's Project Glass. The report is scant on further details on either project other than saying the products represent "one major part of many currently non-commercialised products under development by LG Electronics."

The smart watch rumours began late last year when a Chinese blog reported that Apple was working on a Bluetooth-integrated wristwatch powered by Intel. A New York Time report in February stated that Apple working on iOS-running wristwatch-like device with curved glass.

However, the rumour mill kicked into overdrive earlier this month, with a Bloomberg report claiming that Apple was working on 'iWatch', with a team of over 100 engineers being led personally by design guru Jonathan Ive. The report claimed that Ive, who has a 'fetish' for high-end watches, went so far as to order "boxes" of Nike sports watches for his team to study a few years ago.

If Apple is doing something, can Samsung be far behind? Barely days later, came a report that Samsung was working on a smart watch of its own. While Samsung did not officially confirm the development, spokeswoman Chenny Kim said that the company is "constantly exploring new technologies and developing various form factors," adding further fuel to the rumours. Just two days later, a report in The Financial Times stated that, Google, too, is working on smart watch.

If these rumours are any thing to go by, wearable computing looks set to be the next big thing. As the original report notes, LG has already experimented with smart watches with the likes of LG GD910, without much success. Interestingly, the report leaves the possibility open that LG's smart watch may be powered by Firefox OS instead of Android.
