Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ have just been launched and they are very important smartphones for Samsung especially after the Note 7 fiasco. The company is depending on these smartphones to be successful so it can regain the flagship crown it was forced to cede after some Galaxy Note 7 units caught fire. On this episode of Orbital, we talk about all things Samsung and to do that, Gagan Gupta, Rishi Alwani, and Roydon Cerejo join host Pranay Parab.

We start the discussion by discussing whether the biggest feature is indeed the smartphone's display. The Infinity Display brings almost a bezel-free design to the smartphone and we talk about the advantages of this screen. The discussion then moves to the invisible home button on this phone and whether the design is indeed as great as Samsung believes.

We then talk about the raw power in the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. We touch upon issues such as whether the phones are indeed as powerful as flagships ought to be and whether the speed bumps on smartphone processors are slowing down. We compare it against performance gains seen in smartphones made by Apple.

Also important to the discussion is Samsung's focus on software features such as the virtual assistant Bixby. We compare it against Google Assistant and how useful it'll actually be. This is one of the headline features of the S8 and S8+ and we talk about how useful this service will be in India. We also talk about other security features such as the Samsung Pass app, the iris scanner, face unlock, and the fingerprint scanner.
