Twitter on Tuesday announced that it replaced stars for favourites feature with hearts for likes. The micro-blogging network said it chose hearts over stars as it was "a universal symbol that resonates across languages, cultures, and time zones." It added that not everything a user liked could be a favourite, aiming to increase user engagement with a more widely usable feature.

Twitter while announcing the change in its favourite system also claimed that the heart was more expressive and enabled users to convey a range of emotions.

Users worldwide will start seeing the hearts icon in place of star icon on Twitter for iOS and Android as well as on desktop, and TweetDeck. The social platform has also added the heart icon to the Vine app. Hearts icon will soon be seen on Vine for iOS and Twitter for Mac.

However, for all those who still love the Twitter's stars over heart, there is a new third-party Chrome extension named 'Fav Forever, which can bring back the stars to Twitter.

Considering it's a Chrome extension, users can only use it on Chrome browser and will have to install it via Chrome Web Store. After enabling the extension, users once signed-in to twitter.com will automatically get stars back instead of hearts.

The Verge reports that the extension brings back the stars for favourites "but not all."

Last month, Twitter increased follow limit from 2,000 to 5,000 accounts which would allow anyone on Twitter to follow more people. The company however making sure that the spam was in check announced that a user who only has 10 followers could not follow more than the follow limit.
