  • Samsung plans to strengthen its market share in the smart TV segment.
Cashing in on the growing LED market, Samsung has unveiled its latest collection of smart television sets - LED ES8000-ES7500 series.

The company aims to strengthen its market share in this category. "This year we are targeting to increase our market share by five percent", Samsung India Audio-Visual, Vice-President (Business Head) Raj Kumar Rishi told reporters.

The company currently has about 30 percent market share in flat panel televisions.

Noting that there had been over 200 percent increase in sales of LED television sets in the last few years than LCD, he said sales of LED TV sets will overtake that of LCD sets in the coming year.

A company spokesperson said the overall television market is 13 million, in which CRT (cathode ray tubes) television sets contribute 70 percent, while the remaining is flat panel sets. Among the flat panel sets, smart televisions contribute five percent share.

Rishi informed that Samsung's television sets are manufactured from both their Chennai and Noida manufacturing units and the Southern Region of the country contributes to majority of its sales.

Commenting on their newly launched television sets, he said smart television sets are equipped with triple protection.

The Samsung 2012 smart television series come with Voice Control, Motion Control, and Face Recognition commands that will help users turn the TV on or off, activate selected apps or search for and select content in the web browser without the remote control.

The new range of television sets are priced between Rs. 35,000 to Rs. 2.73 lakh and are already available in the market.

Samsung Electronics had last year reported total group revenue of $143.1 billion and employs over two lakh people across 72 countries.
