Apple Watch Series 11 is latest smartwatch from the tech giant
Apple Watch Series 11, along with the Watch Ultra 3 and Watch SE 3, were unveiled on Tuesday by the Cupertino tech giant during its ‘Awe Dropping' launch event. Apart from the smartwatches, the company also launched the latest iPhone 17 series, which includes the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The Apple Watch Series 11 succeeds the Watch Series 10, which was unveiled in September 2024. Additionally, the Watch SE series has been updated after three years, as the Watch SE (2nd Generation) was launched in September 2022.
The price of the Apple Watch Series 11 starts at $399 (roughly Rs. 35,000). In India, the starting price of the smartwatch has been set at Rs. 46,900. It will be available in 42mm and 46mm size variants, and in Jet Black, Rose Gold, Silver, and Space Grey aluminium cases. It will also ship with a polished titanium case option in natural, gold, and slate colourways. There is also an Apple Watch Hermès variant, which will come in 42mm and 46mm size options and in a single silver titanium case.
On the other hand, the price of Apple Watch Ultra starts at $799 (roughly Rs. 71,000) in the US. The new flagship smartwatch will be offered in Natural and Black Titanium case options. The Cupertino tech giant has also unveiled new colour options for the watch bands of Watch Ultra 3, including Ocean Band and Alpine Loop colourways for the Trail Loop band, and the En Mer band of the Hermès collection will also come in two new colourways.
Lastly, the price in India of the Apple Watch SE 3 starts at Rs. 25,900, while in the US its starting price has been set at $249 (about Rs. 22,000). The smartwatch will ship in Midnight and Starlight aluminium cases.
The three new smartwatches, Apple Watch Series 11, Watch Ultra 3, and Watch SE 3, will go on sale on September 19. However, the smartwatches are currently available for pre-order for buyers in India, the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, France, Japan, and Germany, including 50 other countries. The new watch bands for the Watch Series 11 will also go on sale on September 19.
The Apple Watch Series 11 is a 5G-enabled smartwatch that will run on WatchOS 26 out of the box. The company claims that its latest wearable sports a two times more scratch-resistant glass on the front. The Cupertino tech giant claims that the watch uses a proprietary Ion-X (ion-exchanged strengthened) glass for the display, which has also been treated with a new ceramic coating that “bonds to the glass at an atomic level” through a process called “physicalvapourr deposition”.
Claimed to be built from 100 percent recycled titanium and aluminium, the new Apple smartwatch will now support fast charging, while offering up to 24 hours of battery life. It also supports live translations now. Apart from this, the Watch Series 11 will come with a suite of health features, like ECG and irregular rhythm notifications, which were also seen on previous generations. It also comes with a new Sleep score system, which rates the quality of sleep that the wearer gets each day.
However, the new addition this year is the Hypertension notifications that the Watch Series 11 will send to the wearer. For this, the smartwatch will utilise data from the onboard optical heart sensor that analyses the response of the user's blood vessels to heartbeats. Apple claims that the algorithm works “passively” in the background, where it reviews the optical heart sensor data over 30-day periods. If the wearable detects any inconsistencies, it will alert the user by sending a notification.
The Apple Watch Ultra 3 now comes with 5G connectivity. The company said that it sports the largest display ever featured on an Apple smartwatch, which also has an always-on display with a 1Hz refresh rate. It carries an LTPO3 wide-angle OLED screen, allowing wearers to view the content on the display from different angles clearly. Moreover, Apple said that the LTPO3 technology enables the display bezels to be 24 percent thinner, allowing the company to offer a larger “active screen area” without increasing the size of the smartwatch's case.
It is now claimed to offer 42 hours of battery life in daily use. In the Low Power mode, it is said to provide up to 72 hours of battery life. Additionally, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 also comes with 20 hours of battery life in Low Power Mode with full GPS and heart rate readings. The wearable now supports fast charging as well. Apple claims that 15 minutes of charging can provide up to 12 hours of battery life. The Workout app has also been redesigned for it.
Moreover, it now comes with two-way satellite communication capabilities. It would allow users to send emergency SOS alerts, text messages to their friends and family, and share their location, even if the watch is not receiving cellular or Wi-Fi coverage. If the Watch Ultra 3 detects a vehicular accident or “hard” fall, it would automatically send an alert to the emergency services and the emergency contacts, if it is in the line of sight of a satellite.
Apart from this, it gets the new sleep score system and Hypertension notifications support, which are also offered with the Apple Watch Series 11.
Like the Watch Series 11 and Watch Ultra 3, the new Apple Watch SE 3 also comes with 5G connectivity, the latest sleep score system, and on-device Siri. The affordable Apple smartwatch now comes with an always-on display, which was earlier only available on the more expensive wearables from the Cupertino tech giant.
The Apple Watch SE 3 also offers retrospective ovulation estimates and temperature sensing capabilities. However, it misses out on the Hypertension notifications, which are available on the Watch Series 11 and Watch Ultra 3. Apple claims that the smartwatch sports 4 times more crack-resistant glass and is built from 100 percent recycled aluminium. It also supports live translations, as seen on the Watch Series 11, and offers media playback capabilities. It is powered by Apple's S10 chip and also supports fast charging.
