Facebook Is Testing a Tinder-Like Feature on Messenger

It appears Facebook has decided which popular service's feature it plans to add next to its Messenger app. The social juggernaut, which has spent much of the past year bringing Snapchat-inspired features across all its core services, is now testing a very Tinder-like feature, users have spotted.

A message, "[Name redacted] and 15 others may want to meet up with you this week", popped up on a Motherboard's reporter phone recently. Upon further investigation, the outlet was able to confirm that it was indeed very similar to Tinder's core offering. Instead of left or right swipe - as is the case on Tinder, Facebook asks people whether they would like to meet up with a particular person. Users then have two options "No Thanks", and "Yes". If they both agree, Facebook will presumably set wheels in motion to let them know that both of them have shown interest in meeting each other.

Facebook told the publication that it was testing this feature with select users. "People often use Facebook to make plans with their friends. So, we're running a very small test in the Facebook app to make that easier. We look forward to hearing people's feedback."

As is the case with most of other Facebook's tests, if the feature gets traction, it will be rolled out to all. What remains unclear until then is, will people have an option to opt out of it. And what does Tinder think about Facebook's test.

To recall, Facebook began copying Snapchat's Stories last year and has since added it to its marquee app, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram.
