Tecno’s Pova Curve 2 aims to bite off more than it can chew. Compared to its predecessor, the Curve 2 takes the big-battery approach offering a massive 8,000mAh battery on a mid-range device. However, after a week of testing, we discovered that battery life was the least of its problems.
More Tecno Pova Curve 2 5G NewsAdvancements in both battery tech and processors, along with good software optimisation, have ensured that high-capacity batteries aren't necessarily the need of the hour. Lithium-ion batteries with silicon-carbon technology have also ensured faster charging and allowed squeezing in higher capacities into compact devices. And yet, we witnessed the launch of a big-battery smartphone like Realme P4 Power in 2026, which shockingly managed to squeeze in a powerbank-sized 10,001mAh battery into a regular-sized smartphone.
The Tecno Pova Curve 2 has a curvy and slim design which is a mix of glass and polycarbonate. The slim profile is a bit surprising given that the phone packs a high-capacity battery. Its design is also IP64-rated for dust and water. Its 144Hz high refresh rate claim isn’t true.
Performance is a bit underwhelming for a mid-range device. Software performance is smooth but gaming performance should have been better given its price. The underlying HiOS software is updated to the latest version of Android, providing a very consistent experience that feels like an iOS look-a-like.
Camera performance is sub-par. The phone only offers a single user-accessible rear-facing camera and its performance is unimpressive for a mid-range device. Video too is capped at 1080p only.
Battery life given the slightly dated processor is good, but far from the best. Charging speeds are decent given the high-capacity battery.
