It's been a while but the much awaited Xbox One Windows 10 update is finally out. Clocking in at around 1.1GB, it results in a massive overhaul of the console's user interface, making it easier to access social functions like friends lists. Initial impressions indicate that it's rather snappy, with minor lag caused by slow animations when navigating to the left side of the new dashboard. Like most new updates, we'd recommend waiting until any potential bugs or issues have been reported to Microsoft. But if you can't wait, here's how you to download the Xbox One Windows 10 update.

If you have your console set in Instant On mode, the update should have already been downloaded and ready to install the moment you switch on your console. And if you're not in Instant On mode, navigate to My Apps and Settings, select the System tile to check for the update. It should reflect immediately.

Backwards compatibility, a much touted addition will only be available from 12:01pm PT on Thursday (1:31am IST on Friday) according to Xbox's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb.

Keep in mind that Microsoft's implementation of backwards compatibility requires you to download the entire game despite having it on disc. That might be fine for countries with great Internet connectivity, but for gamers in places like India, it might make the feature far from seamless.

However, one can't fault it for trying. Since the lukewarm response to the Xbox One in 2013 there have been more than enough announcements and fixes from Microsoft to make the console worth considering, such as a faster interface, screenshot capture, and most importantly, a whole lot of great games. Backwards compatibility just happens to be one of them.
