The Delhi High Court on Monday sought a status report from the Delhi government and traffic police on the steps taken to enforce a ban on app-based cab service providers.

Justice Manmohan asked the Delhi government to also apprise whether app-based cab service provider Ola was still operating in violation of its earlier orders.

The court earlier asked the Delhi government to "strictly enforce" the ban imposed by it on January 1.

The Association of Radio Taxis moved a contempt petition against Ola, claiming its cabs were still plying on the city roads despite a July 29 order of a single judge as well as an August 11 decision by a division bench of the high court upholding the ban.

On January 1, the Delhi government banned the operation of app-based cab services till they complied with the guidelines of the Radio Taxi Scheme of 2006, amended on December 26, 2014.

Refusing to interfere with its single-judge bench order upholding the ban on app-based cabs in the city, the Delhi High Court last week held as "factually incorrect" Ola's contention that non-CNG commercial vehicles were not barred from plying in the national capital.

A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath also said the online cab service aggregator's contention that as per Supreme Court orders taxis only needed to be Euro II compliant was "misplaced" and dismissed the company's plea challenging the single-judge's July 29 interim order.
