After the launch of the Galaxy TabPro S, two new Notebook 9 laptops, and several other products at its pre-CES press conference, Samsung quietly unveiled the Chromebook 3. The new version of the Chrome OS notebook offers better specifications than its predecessor, most notably an improved battery life.

While Samsung didn't deem Chromebook 3 worthy of stage time at its press conference on Tuesday, that doesn't mean the Chromebook 3 is not a substantial upgrade over its predecessor.

"Samsung recognised that demand when we launched the first-ever Chromebook in 2011," the company wrote in a blog post. "We're continuing to keep up with evolving consumer needs with this new iteration, which offers even more convenient features that solve consumers' pain points, like all day battery life and fast charging capabilities."

As for the specifications, the Chromebook 3 measures 288.5x204.2x17.7mm, and weighs 1.4kg. Also worth underscoring is that the plastic body has been ditched in favour of metal body, giving the notebook more premium look and better resistance.

The Samsung Chromebook 3 sports an 11.6-inch HD (1366x768 pixels) display with anti-glare. It is powered by Intel Celeron N3050 processor, Intel HD Graphics, either 2GB or 4GB of RAM, and 16GB eMMC internal storage. There's a 33Wh battery as well, which as per Samsung's claims, will keep the Chromebook 3 running for up to 11 hours on a single charge - to put that in perspective, the Samsung Chromebook 2 offered up to 8 hours of battery life on a single charge.

On the connectivity front, the Samsung Chromebook 3 supports Wi-Fi 802.11 ac 2x2 and Bluetooth 4.0. There's one USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port, an HDMI port, and a microSD card slot. There's no word on pricing just yet, though to recall the Chromebook 2 was priced at $400 (roughly Rs. 27,600).
