  • Benchmark results point at Snapdragon 820 SoC
  • Expected to sport 4GB of RAM, instead of 6GB
  • Galaxy Note 7 will switch to USB Type-C port

Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 7 is nearing its launch date, and numerous leaks have outlined several details about the phablet already. Now, a fresh set of leaks give us more details on the Galaxy Note 7, while also hinting that an upgraded Gear VR headset will also be launched alongside. There's also a report tipping the price of the handset.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is expected to shift to the USB-Type C port that Google has recently been pushing with its Marshmallow platform lead devices - the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. This shift to a new port will render the old Gear VR headset useless, as it comes with a Micro-USB port. To address this is a new VR headset with a model number SM-R323, claims Galaxyclub.nl, pointing to an import-export listing on Zauba. The headset is expected to succeed the old Gear VR (model number SM-R322) and come with a new USB-Type C connectivity, and space for the new phablet size.

With Samsung's constant push into VR, this move seems to be logical. The Korean tech giant recently even introduced a website dedicated to virtual reality content for users to upload and share content. Presumably, the headset will launch alongside the Galaxy Note 7, and may be sold in a bundle for a discounted additional cost.

After being spotted on AnTuTu, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has now allegedly been spotted on the Geekbench benchmark database as well. The results reiterate the same specifications as its counterpart AnTuTu. According to the benchmark test, the phablet (model number SM-N930V) is powered by a Snapdragon 820 SoC paired with 4GB RAM. This is in contrast to previous rumours that hint at Samsung's own Exynos 8893 processor (or a Snapdragon 821 SoC) paired with a 6GB RAM. However, the tested phablet could just be a mock device for carrier testing, and these might not be the final specifications of the device.

Finally, Sammobile tips that the Galaxy Note 7 will be priced starting from EUR 849 (roughly Rs. 63.000) in Europe, which is EUR 50 more than the Galaxy S7 Edge.

Samsung is expected to launch the phablet on August 2 at an Unpacked event, however no official invites have been rolled out yet. The phablet is said to sport an iris scanner in the front, which will essentially enable users to unlock their smartphones just by looking at it. Collating previous leaks, the Galaxy Note 7 is expected to be available in Black Onyx, Silver Titanium, and Blue Coral colour variants. It may run on Android Marshmallow, sport a USB Type-C port, and don a dual-edged display exclusively. It is tipped to sport a 6-inch display QHD Super Amoled display, and offer storage options at 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB (with the choice to expand as well). Additionally, there is expected to be a 12-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera, and a 3600mAh battery on the phablet.
