More GTA 6 Leaks Surface as Take-Two Subpoenas Microsoft, Discord to Track Down Leaker

Grand Theft Auto 6 suffered a string of major leaks last week from a group targeting Rockstar Games and its parent company Take-Two. Alleged gameplay footage from the open world crime title is now out in the wild ahead of an official extended gameplay showcase premiering on Netflix this week. The leaks continued over the weekend, showing more snippets of alleged GTA 6 gameplay, even as Take-Two began taking legal steps to track down the leaker.

The leaker, a group that calls itself Cyberleek, has posted nine alleged gameplay clips from Grand Theft Auto 6 so far. Most of the videos show Jason Duvall, one of GTA 6's two protagonists, involved in various activities like driving, causing nuisance, committing robberies and other criminal acts.

New GTA 6 Videos Leak

One of the recent leaks over the weekend showed footage of a plane flying over Vice City at nighttime. Other videos showed Jason stealing a car and committing gas station robberies. From the leaked clips, it seems Grand Theft Auto 6 will feature a refueling mechanic at gas stations. Another leaked clip showed Jason walking into a strip club. One of the leaked videos also includes a brief cutscene towards the end that shows Jason heading to the washroom of a bar and talking to an NPC.

The most recent leaked clip shows Jason driving from his safe house to a gas station, where another character is pouring fuel into his truck bed rather than his truck's fuel tank. Jason then proceeds to steal the truck and drive off, before getting blown up as the fuel-laden truck gets into an accident.

As with previous leaked gameplay videos, the newer clips advertise Cyberleek's crypto coin. The leaked clip last week suggested that the group might also have a playable build of GTA 6, which could lead to further, more devastating leaks and story spoilers from the upcoming game.

Take-Two Files Subpoena Requests

Rockstar Games and Take-Two have not yet released a statement on the leaks, but they have begun legal processes in an effort to identify the responsible parties. Take-Two has reportedly filed multiple subpoena requests in US federal district courts, petitioning tech firms Microsoft and Discord to divulge user data associated with accounts posting and sharing leaks online.

According to a report in Kotaku, Take-Two is seeking the release of information on such accounts, including user data and connected Microsoft OneDrive and Xbox account data for the users. In its DMCA subpoena petition, Take-Two reportedly said that it was taking the legal step to identify “alleged infringer or infringers”. The sought information would only be used for the purpose of protecting its rights, the company added.

“The copyrighted material includes but is not limited to audiovisual content, artwork, images, dialogue, or other creative elements,” Take-Two's subpoena petition, filed with the Southern District Court of New York on August 20, reads.

The petition suggests Take-Two has yet to identify the person or persons behind Cyberleek, the group that has claimed responsibility for the leaks. On its website, that has since been taken down, Cyberleek said it was “fighting for gamers” and their rights. The group had listed three “commandments” on its website that mentioned the lack of a physical disc release for GTA 6, paid single-player DLC, and lack of preservation of offline single-player game content as its motivations for leaking GTA 6 content.

The group also posted a warning to other publishers, threatening more gaming leaks in the future. “If CYBERLEEK can reach Rockstar, no one is safe. This is a message to all big corpo: behave, or be the next target,” the group said on its website.

According to a Bloomberg report last week, Rockstar has not yet identified the leaker and confirmed the original source of the leaks. According to a person familiar with the matter, it's “all hands on deck” at Rockstar and Take-Two.
