About Wrapped Bitcoin

The Wrapped Bitcoin token was initially launched on October 26, 2018 in a bid to bring Bitcoin’s liquidity to the Ethereum decentralised ecosystem. The wBTC tokens was born as a collaborative effort by BitGo, Kyber Network, and Ren (previously Republic Protocol).

Essentially, wrapped Bitcoin is a modified version of Bitcoin, equal to it in price. WBTCs are ERC-20 tokens that represent Bitcoin (BTC) on the Ethereum blockchain.

This token allows Bitcoin holders to interact with Ethereum’s decentralised finance (DeFi) ecosystem.

Represented as a gold Bitcoin symbol in a white circle, wBTC has a circulating supply of 246,962 WBTC coins and its maximum supply is not available.
